What is Baptism?

Throughout the history of the church, Baptism has been one of the two ceremonies believers are commanded to observe, the other being the Lord's Supper or Communion. Baptism is the ceremony that portrays the beginning of a person's spiritual life in Jesus Christ; as such it is an outward, visible sign of a person's inner commitment to Jesus Christ.

Being baptized does not save you. It is an act of obedience to demonstrate that you have been saved. Jesus Himself was baptized and instructed His disciples to baptize others. When we follow Jesus in baptism, we are making a public declaration that we belong to Christ and that we now have new life in Christ.

You may come from a church tradition where you were baptized as an infant. At Valley, we believe that baptism by immersion in water is to occur after a person makes his or her own decision to follow Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. So in choosing to be baptized, you may now affirm the intent of your parents who baptized you with the hope that you would follow Christ.

When can I be baptized?

Valley offers baptisms several times each year. After completing a mandatory Baptism Class and a brief interview, you can be ready for this exciting step of Christian growth! Our next baptisms are during our annual River Baptism Service at 1 p.m. on July 28 at The Farmington River.

What is Membership?

Membership at Valley is a public way to express your commitment to your home church, which also makes a commitment to you. As a church family, we worship, grow, and serve together at all of our locations.

One of the hallmarks of a family is its commitment to each other, an idea central to membership. In these shifting cultural times, our members keep us rooted in our mission and our core beliefs, which are based on the unchanging Word of God.

When can I become a member?

Membership classes are offered at various times and formats throughout the year. Free childcare is available with advance registration which closes one week prior to the class.

Upcoming membership classes:
